LITTLE HUM STUDIO

The studio founders are particulary interested in community life and use of illustrations to communicate with local people. FACULTY OF FINE ARTS, CHIANG MAI UNIVERSITY (CMU)

The Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University (CMU) is one of the main pillars of Chiang Mai’s art and creative community. Established in 1982, the faculty aims to provide art and cultural education to an international standard, serving as an educational hub for northern Thailand. The Faculty offers both undergraduate and graduate courses in a range of fields in contemporary art, such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, design, music, performing arts and courses centered on art history and theory. Offering academic and professional training, the faculty also strives to promote cultural diversity and community engagement through regularly staging important traditional and cultural ceremonies. “Look Tung Wijitsin”, for example, is a biennial music event where former and current faculty members perform traditional and modern Thai-country songs. The Faculty also houses two art galleries and a specialist art library, and its staff and students regularly present exhibits and art works at the nearby Chiang Mai University Art Center. The faculty has a radio program called Voice of Arts at FM100 on Sundays 13.05 – 14.00, which disseminates information about current activities and events and has discussions with guests on various art-related topics.

THE CENTER FOR THE PROMOTION OF ARTS AND CULTURE (CPAC), CMU

Established in 1993, the Center for the Promotion of Arts and Culture (CPAC), Chiang Mai University (CMU), is responsible for the promotion and preservation of arts and culture in Chiang Mai. The center consists of offices in a former period home, and eight traditional wooden houses and three rice granaries that act as a museum. The CPAC is currently working to improve the site as a center of cultural activities by becoming a “living museum” for demonstrating Lanna lifestyle, Lanna architecture and handicrafts as well as an academic study center for Lanna architecture and culture.
