The community has many interesting buildings, such as ‘137 Pillars House’, an old teak house turned luxury hotel that was the former headquarters of the East Borneo Company, and Wat Ket Karam, a temple founded more than 500 years ago that acts as the community center.

Founded in 1998 by Monthatip Suksopha (aka. Pa Thip), the Wandering Moon Performing Group and Endless Journey is a Chiang Mai-based theatre troupe that produces contemporary shadow theatre productions to delight different age groups. Although the group has its own theatre space inside the Thepsiri Gallery in Soi Wat U-mong, it has no regular performances in the city. Occasionally, it brings the production back to Chiang Mai but only for limited viewing. Most performances and workshops are conducted for community and educational institutes, working with local NGOs on various social issues.

A creative venue, Thapae East, opened its door to the public in 2015. It comprises of two main areas: an open air lawn area with a large two-storey red-steel structure used as a background for events such as film screenings, parties and concerts, and two rows of shophouses that include a restaurant and bar at the entrance leading to the lawn area. Shops are run by artists and friends and include shops for book binding, Indian style accessories, handmade and home decorative items, an architecture office and a Mexican restaurant. Thapae East is known to host exciting concerts of different styles of music every month.
